Become a Pilot

Springfield Flying Service offers flight training programs for the following certificates and ratings:

Private Pilot

If your goal is to be a pilot, your first step is the Private Pilot License (PPL). The PPL provides foundational knowledge and skills for all future aircraft pilot training. As a Private Pilot, you can fly an airplane during the day or night in visual flight conditions. In fact, you can even carry passengers such as friends, family, and co-workers. Still, there are some restrictions. For instance, you cannot fly for paid compensation or hire. The PPL is your foundational course to just leisure flights or becoming an airline pilot.

Instrument Rating

Training is designed for students who hold a Private Pilot License (PPL) and are looking to develop their capabilities as a pilot. An Instrument Rating (IR), also often referred to as Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), is designed to train pilots to maneuver an aircraft based purely on knowledge of the instruments without the need to look out of the cockpit, except for take-off and landing. It is key to preparing both commercial and private pilots for flying at night or during challenging weather conditions.

Commerical

This program is a perfect fit for students who already hold a Private Pilot Certificate and are ready to expand their skills to prepare for a professional career as a pilot. You will need to include time building, night flights, cross country flights, and pilot in command time to meet FAA standards. The minimum requirements are: students must hold an FAA Private Pilot Certificate, a 3rd class medical certificate, and speak English.
